Newspaper headlines are not copyright works

After a battle between Fairfax Media Publications Pty Ltd (Fairfax) and Reed International Books Australia Pty Ltd (Reed), the Federal Court of Australia has ruled that newspaper headlines are not capable of copyright protection. This decision legitimises Reed's collation and reproduction of the headlines of news articles appearing in the Australian Financial Review (AFR), on its ABIX subscription service. More...
