About Us | Corporate Social Responsibility

Corporate Social Responsibility

Middletons has an active and structured Corporate Social Responsibility program. This program is designed to improve the social and environmental consequences of our business activities. This includes the provision of pro bono services, the alignment to a number of community based organisations for fundraising, volunteering, workplace giving and the engagement of suppliers having similar CSR policies.

Middletons has policies and procedures in place to ensure that our business operations not only facilitate growth, but also ensure the long-term sustainability of the communities and environment in which we operate. Middletons' CSR program consists of the following five key components.

1. Community affiliation

On 1 July 2007 Middletons implemented a formal partnership with Oxfam Australia – an Australian, independent, not-for-profit, secular, community-based aid and development organisation working in partnership with local communities to overcome poverty and injustice.

The firm is involved at a holistic level with a significant cash donation supporting our activity.

In 2008 Middletons contributed funds to the Oxfam TRAILWALKER in Melbourne and Sydney. The Oxfam TRAILWALKER is one of the world’s greatest and toughest team challenges. The challenge is to get your team of four across 100km of Australian bush in less than 48 hours and to collectively raise at least $1,000 to help to overcome poverty and suffering around the world. In 2008 Middletons fielded a combined 10 teams in the Melbourne and Sydney events, with more than 70 employees participating through volunteering roles or as a trailwalker.

Employees are also given the opportunity to donate their time or money to a range of Oxfam Australia projects and activities. Opportunities for employees include:

  • volunteering their time to activities run by Oxfam
  • participating in Oxfam events
  • pledging money from their salary to Oxfam through Middletons Make a Difference (workplace giving) program
  • being involved in fundraising for Oxfam.

2. Workplace and people

Middletons’ Make a Difference program allows enables staff to donate to charities by way of deductions through the payroll system. Volunteering opportunities are also organised for employees to give their own time and expertise to these charities.

3. Governance

Middletons seeks to achieve the highest standards of corporate governance. We have clear procedures in place to ensure the firm operates in an ethical manner and so that all aspects of the business comply with the law, our policies and stated values.

4. Pro bono

We believe we have a responsibility to give back to the community. In addition to the community involvement of individual partners and staff, Middletons makes a strong contribution through our formal pro bono scheme and through contributions to various charitable causes. For more information see pro bono.

5. Environment

We are committed to a sustainable future through the adoption of environmentally responsible policies and practices. As part of this commitment, we acknowledge our responsibility to reduce the impact that our business operations will have on the environment.
